In recent years, there has been an unprecedented surge in the demand for drone technology. Becoming a certified drone pilot requires obtaining a Remote Pilot License (RePL) sanctioned by the Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The training process, conducted by approved Remote Pilot Training Organizations (RPTOs), is rigorous and comprehensive. The drone pilot training comprises two crucial components: theory and skill. The training is categorized into three tiers: Basic, Special, and Advanced, based on the maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) of the drone and operational capabilities.

In the Basic category, drones with an MTOW of less than 25 kg are permitted to operate within green zones with a 400 ft vertical limit. The Special category extends the operational scope to all airspace zones and allows drones with an MTOW of less than 150 kg to fly beyond the 400 ft limit. Meanwhile, the Advanced category caters to drones exceeding 150 kg in MTOW, granting unrestricted access to airspace zones and altitudes exceeding 400 ft, with pilots expected to operate within aeronautical bandwidth.
